Welsh cycling sprint star, Becky James, will look to kick off her World Cup mission in Kazakhstan later today.
As Victoria Pendleton (Olympic champion) is missing, James will now combine with Jess varnish in the team sprint before competing in the individual sprint and keirin tomorrow and Sunday.
Both James and Varnish are part of a nine-strong GB team who will compete in the first of four world cups.
James, a double Commonwealth Games medallist, still faces a tough challenge to be included in next year’s Olympic team however, with only one rider from each nation being included in the individual sprint and keirin events.
That spot is likely to go to Pendleton with Varnish linking up in the team sprint.
Ross Edgar, Matt Crampton, Jason Kenny, Sir Chris Hoy and Jason Queally will all be taking part in the men’s sprint events, while Ed Clancy and Dani King will compete in the Omnium events.
